Some say Pendleton whiskey originated in Alberta (perhaps due to 100% Pendleton 1910 rye) but they don’t reveal where it came from and some Canadian distilleries make 100% rye whiskey. Pendleton Whiskey was created specifically to celebrate the bold spirit of independence and hard work ethic of American cowboys and cowgirls. Each bottle of Pendleton Whiskey prominently bears the famous rodeo horse symbol and Let’er Buck slogan.

After almost 20 years of aging in American oak, a deeply spicy background is nuanced by notes of caramel, cocoa and dried fruits. Drink this alone or use it for a premium cocktail experience. The palate is woody and rich, with lots of oak, spices and orange peel. Good mouthfeel, with an excellent buttery grain in the heart.

The entry is easy and slightly sweet with a hint of honey and vanilla on the front, which turns into a pleasant caramel note. On the middle palate it gets spicy with notes of oak, black pepper and tobacco jumping into the mix. The 1910 has a medium finish with light spices and a bit of sweetness that dries quickly and leaves the mouth quite clean. The problem with most Canadian blended whiskeys is that they don’t use the flavored whiskey as often as they should.

As a lover of complexity and without too much wood dominance, this doesn’t suit my particular palate, but it’s definitely a good whiskey to see what age can do to a rye whiskey. If you’re a fan of the leather and tobacco notes an aged whiskey can exude, this could be your jam. After twenty years, the wait was worth it from the first sip. The pure, glacier-fed spring water of Mount Hood, Oregon lets the warm, no-frills notes of oak, cinnamon and rye shine through. Orange, vanilla and caramel spices open with a little water or an ice cube, followed by a smooth, ripe finish. Official tasting notes describe the taste as “balanced, full oak paired with hints of coffee cake, walnuts, caramelized bananas, and candied figs for a complex flavor”.

Aromas And Experience In The Nose:

On the nose there is initially caramel, followed by a raisin punch, a clear echo of the time in brandy barrels. The palate largely coincides with the nose; Again, it’s pretty sweet, with more caramel and chocolate, with a hint of rum and a hint of raisins, almost like toppings on ice. Hood River does not distill Pendleton, but is one of the oldest bottlers and importers in the Pacific Northwest, founded in 1934. This whiskey probably has my favorite presentation of all the whiskeys I’ve discovered. There was an older version, released around 2010, also 20 years old.

Grain Neutral Spirit is not allowed in your whiskey under Canadian law, but flavoring whiskeys are not used adequately for most Canadian blends. This 100% Canadian rye whiskey is sourced and bottled by the Cooper Spirits Company in the USA. Although it costs around $ 150 or more per bottle, the whiskey is worth it.

What I mean is that they are like a scotch mixed with grain whiskeys and malt whiskeys. Grain-based whiskeys, both Scottish and Canadian, are distilled to such a high degree that it might as well be vodka, and then matured to maturity and age-specific. The blended whiskey usually has a good proportion of malt, which influences the grain base whiskey. Canadian Blended Flavoring Whiskey is very low, even up to 1% of the total amount of the components. Then you have a 9.09% rule that could include US spirits or added wine for the US market that is alchemically blended to taste similar to the original Canadian version.

  • Do i have a whiskey for you Pendleton’s Canadian Blended Whiskey is aged in barrels for 10 years and bottled with 80 proof.
  • As a lover of complexity and without too much wood dominance, this doesn’t suit my particular palate, but it’s definitely a good whiskey to see what age can do to a rye whiskey.
  • This ‘Canadian’ whiskey (US / Canadian company) has strong alcoholic legs exuded by the sweetest aromas on the nose.
  • It is distilled in copper stills from a 100% malted barley mash and matured in American oak barrels for at least three years.
  • Although it costs around $ 150 or more per bottle, the whiskey is worth it.

I tend to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into getting it right the first time without having to mix. My preference is bourbon, and I have to recommend the Four Roses Single Barrel as possibly the softest bourbon I’ve ever tried. While I’m not interested in small batches, the single barrel is exceptional. Jack Daniel’s single barrel is also extremely smooth.

I was also surprised as we all know that whiskeys like Ellington Reserve and Pendleton come from the same factory and are basically alcoholic beverages with a label on the bottle. Still, I don’t recommend this product as there are at least some “real” Canadian whiskeys on the US market that are worth the price of the glass they come in. Lot 40 is a great example of high quality Canadian whiskey that is actually available. Pendleton is a blended Canadian whiskey that is distilled by Hood River Distillers, Inc. Besides, nothing can convince me to drink this whiskey again.

I wouldn’t call this whiskey an extremely complex whiskey, but rather fresh and clean. This addition to Hood River Distillers of Oregon’s Pendleton whiskey line includes a serving of whiskey that has been aged in American brandy casks for more than six years. Once blended, the whiskeys are blended with glacier-fed spring water from Oregon’s highest mountain before bottling. Available in selected markets from September 2015.

Pendleton Whiskey Review Fundamentals Explained

Personally, I wouldn’t buy this again after my first experience, not because the quality isn’t there, but because it’s not the whiskey experience I’m looking for at this price. If you’re looking for more daring Canadian whiskeys that are great value for money, I recommend giving Forty Creek a try. This ‘Canadian’ whiskey (US / Canadian company) has strong alcoholic legs exuded by the sweetest aromas on the nose. Let this substance breathe for a minute or two, then watch the lovely caramel / caramel / caramel nose once the alcohol burn subsides.

I think you have too much time, but the taste caught my imagination. I think you should drink this slowly, study it, and focus intensely on the flavors. This whiskey starts in the front of the mouth and bounces back. If I had gone to a bar and ordered a glass of something good, and that is what the bartender gave me, I would have assumed I would have served some lightly ripened / flavored rum. This is what the low-end Pendleton sip reminds me of, which means it doesn’t taste like whiskey at all. Too little body, no whiskey-like taste profile.

The other challenge is to buy an aged rye whiskey. The shopkeeper mentioned that this had a grain bill similar to American bourbon, but at a cheaper price. I have no other experience with Canadian whiskey, not even Crown Royal. Pendleton® Whiskey was created specifically to celebrate the bold spirit of independence and hard work ethic of American cowboys and cowgirls. Each bottle of Pendleton® whiskey prominently bears the famous rodeo horse symbol and Let’er Buck slogan. Much more complex and interesting than most Canadian whiskeys.

This also means that each bottle tastes slightly different, but generally look for notes of vanilla, honey, and spice. Pendleton Whiskey is a whiskey aged in oak barrels that is distilled in Canada with the best ingredients. Spring water, fed by glaciers from Mount Hood (Oregon’s highest peak), is added before bottling. Pendleton whiskey offers an exceptionally smooth taste and a rich, complex taste. Answers To Pendleton Leter Buck Canadian Whiskey

That’s not bad; But give me Corona on Pendleton every time. I’m a photographer and I like single malt scotch. My father, my grandfather and my stepmother made me love good whiskey.
